In accordance with NNSA SD 251.1 B, Directives Management, all NNSA directives must be reviewed and recertified for relevancy every three years. NA-70 reviewed SD 226.1-2 and determined that its requirements, roles and responsibilities were implemented by the NNSA SD 226.1 C, NNSA Site Governance, and not needed. Cancellation of SD 226.1-2 would have no impact on Safeguards and Security oversight of NNSA laboratories, plants, and sites and would eliminate an unnecessary directive.

BACKGROUND: NNSA SD 226.1-2, issued on May 25, 2021, clarified roles and responsibilities for program, functional, and field office portions of Safeguards and Security oversight in accomplishing and sustaining mission work at NNSA laboratories, plants, and sites. In accordance with NNSA SD 251.1B, Directives Management, all NNSA directives must be reviewed and recertified for relevancy every three years. NA-70 reviewed SD 226.1-2 and determined that its requirements, roles and responsibilities were implemented by the NNSA SD 226.1C, NNSA Site Governance, and not needed. Cancellation of SD 226.1-2 would have no impact on Safeguards and Security oversight of NNSA laboratories, plants, and sites and would eliminate an unnecessary directive. SD 226.1-2 was circulated throughout the Nuclear Security Enterprise for review and cancellation concurrence. Twelve offices concurred, and 17 offices did not respond. No offices non-concurred.
