WEAPON QUALITY ASSURANCE (WQA) BULLETIN NNSA WEAPON QUALITY DIVISION (NA-121.3) February 2023 MANAGEMENT AND OPERATING (M&O) CONTRACTOR STANDARDS AND CALIBRATION PROGRAMS TO REFERENCE ISO/IEC 17025:2017 In 2017, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) revised ISO/IEC 17025: General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. Accrediting bodies provided a short grace period for calibration and testing labs to implement the new standards, but now all accredited testing and calibration laboratories are accredited to ISO 17025:2017. Chapter 13.2 of the Development and Production (D&P) Manual references an older version of ISO/IEC 17025; however, because the 2017 version “cancels and replaces” prior editions, and external calibration providers are accredited to the 2017 version, the Primary Standards Laboratory (PSL) will conduct all future technical surveys against ISO/IEC 17025:2017 in addition to the requirements in NNSA Policy (NAP) 401.1A, Weapon Quality Policy; the D&P Manual; and the PSL memorandum. All M&O Contractors, Contractor Standards Labs, and Metrology Organizations will be evaluated to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 until the D&P Manual, Chapter 13.2, is replaced by new Defense Program Business System (DPBPS) requirements.
